An adult man was found dead Wednesday in the Cloverland Electric Power Canal near the Cloverland Electric Power Plant, bringing to an end a days long search by multiple emergency response agencies.

According to the Sault Ste. Marie Police Department, the search began Friday, July 24, after reports that an individual had entered the canal from the Ashmun Street Bridge.

Over the next several days, local, state and federal agencies conducted an extensive search using specialized equipment and personnel.

Resources deployed included two unmanned aerial systems (drones), a remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV), an underwater live-view camera system, two K-9 teams and side-scan sonar.

The man’s body was recovered Wednesday, July 29, near the power plant.

Authorities did not release the man’s identity. No additional information was immediately available.
