Mary Elane Burton, 69, of Curtis, died Saturday morning January 18, 2020 at her residence.

Born October 9, 1950 in Newberry, daughter of Reynold and Elizabeth (Berry) LaFond, Mary was a 1968 graduate of Newberry High School and graduate of Bay College in Escanaba receiving an associate’s degree in human services.

Mary was formerly employed at Luce County Community Mental Health and later as a corrections officer at the Newberry Correctional Facility until her retirement in 2008.

Mary enjoyed shopping, flower gardening, crossword puzzles and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

Mary is preceded in death by her father Reynold and sister Cathy Kennicott.

Survivors include her children Julie (Chris Dums) Burton and Jeff (Tiffany Weilant) Burton all of Curtis; mother Elizabeth Decator of Newberry; grandchildren Ariel Burton, Jacob (Laura) Burton and Steven Burton; great-grandchildren Aaliyah Masich, Annika Hutchinson, Payton Burton and Levi Burton; siblings Jill (Bernie) Lampi of Austin, TX, Richey LaFond of Robertsdale, AL and Tamie LaFond of Curtis; brother-in-law Scott Kennicott of Summerdale, AL; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday January 25, 2020 from 11:00 am until 12:00 noon at the Erickson Center for the Arts in Curtis with a memorial service at 12:00 noon and a luncheon following.
