Lifelong Newberry resident, Gail M. “Snooks” Burgess, 69, died Sunday morning March 15, 2020 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Born September 20, 1950 in Newberry, daughter of the late Virgil and Alice (Williams) Groh, she owned and operated Snooks Spot Restaurant for several years. Snooks continued employment at both the Island Grill and the Knollwood Inn as a cook, a waitress at the Elks Club and in the deli department at Mac’s Market. Most recently Snooks was a volunteer and eventually an employee at the LINK, the Feeding America program, foster care aide and providing food at the American Legion functions.

Snooks raced stock cars, enjoyed casino gaming, QVC, quilting, puzzles, playing computer games and spending time with her immediate and extended family and cooking for the neighborhood friends and families.

In addition to her parents, Snooks is preceded in death by her siblings Sally Clark, Ed Groh, Jim Groh and special friend Leo Dollins.
