Douglas Jay McCool, age 74, passed away at his home in Newberry on May 20, 2020 with his children by his side. Doug was born December 22, 1945 in Cass City, the son of the late E. J. and Elizabeth (Hubbard) McCool. He grew up in Kingston where he graduated from high school with the class of 1963. He had a long career with Farm Credit Services. Doug, then an avid musher himself, started the Tahquamenon Country Dog Sled Race in Newberry in 1999. Doug enjoyed his Belgians and driving his Amish Buggy pulled by his standard breed and giving family and friends an exciting ride. He enjoyed attending horse sales and auctions to find a great deal. Although he kept an active life, he could be found most days at 3:00 p.m. at McDonalds having coffee with the guys. Doug is survived by his three children. Michelle and her husband, Albert McCool-Neff, Scott McCool and Jason McCool; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Ethan Scott McCool, Izabelle McCool, James Neff, Lexi Eastman, and Leland Eastman. He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Emily Neff Eastman; and a brother, Richard (Dick) McCool. The family will be present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Friday, May 29, 2020 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

There will be a memorial service scheduled at a later date at the Deford Community Church.
